The hero that finally ends the coronavirus pandemic might be … a llama?
That’s right. Scientists in the U.S. and Belgium believe llamas might be the key to developing a successful coronavirus treatment.
Llamas have the ability to produce nanobodies – small, disease-fighting antibodies that make them resistant to sickness. Scientists hope those nanobodies could be developed into a treatment that stops COVID-19 from spreading in the lungs.
In fact, llamas are already being studied for other types of coronavirus like SARS and MERS.
