That Delivery Confirmation Text You Received Could be a Scam

Officials are warning people of a scam that targets victims through text messages.

The scam involves sending out texts that look like a delivery confirmation from Amazon or FedEx, according to online tech magazine How to Geek. Clicking on the link takes victims to a bogus Amazon page that offers a “free” prize for taking a survey. However, getting the prize requires a credit card number for “shipping and handling,” the site reports. It also automatically registers the victim for a service subscription that automatically bills the credit card $98.95 a month.

Police say the best way to avoid the scam is obvious: don’t click on the link.
