Martin Scorsese Disses Marvel Movies, Calling Them Not Cinema

Legendary film maker Martin Scorsese made waves over the weekend with his comments about the Marvel movies. In short, he’s not a fan.

He told Empire Magazine, “I don’t see them. I tried, you know? But that’s not cinema. Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.”

As you can imagine, that didn’t sit well with many, especially with Samuel L. Jackson.

Jackson would also say, “Films are films. You know, everybody doesn’t like his stuff either…Everybody’s got an opinion, so it’s okay. It’s not going to stop anyone from making movies.”

My biggest issue with Scorsese’s comments is when he said “I don’t see them” and then promptly called the movies “Not cinema”. That would be like Tom Brady saying he didn’t like baseball so it’s not a real sport.

It’s okay to not like something. As Jackson says, everyone has an opinion. However, someone in Scorsese’s position should understand more than most that to have an EDUCATED opinion, you have to watch the movies. Because if he had, he would have seen those emotional connections he’s complaining about. Like this one…

As it stands, Scorsese comes off like an entitled, snobby jerk.
