The first night of Blind Auditions aired last night (9/23) for the Premiere of season 17 of The Voice.
The “O.G. Coach” of The Voice Blake Shelton had a rough start to the new season. He pressed his button for several artists who ended up choosing another coach. Even his girlfriend Gwen Stefani “stole” some artists from him.
When 18-year-old Kat Hammok performed “Vienna” both Blake and Gwen pressed their buttons almost simultaneously. I think most believed what I did, Kat would likely choose Gwen. I think Blake felt the same and his frustration was quite entertaining as he made his pitch to both Kat and her family.
Kat somewhat surprisingly chose to join Team Blake.
Go back and pause the video on the waders Blake brought out and see if you can spot the mistake with them.
Next up was Marina Chello, a 37-year-old native of Uzbekistan who moved to New York City with her family when she was 11. Marina sang “Walk Me Home” for her Blind Audition. Blake pressed his button near the end followed quickly by Kelly Clarkson. Gwen chimed in that she heard something “Kelly” about the audition so she didn’t press. Blake and John dropped some corny puns before Blake got into the real meat and potatoes pitch for Marina to choose him as her coach. Kelly gave a great pitch as well. I felt it could go either way.
Marina made the choice to be part of Team Blake to start season 17.
The night ended with Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend all winning over two artists each for their respective teams. Gwen Stefani made a solid return to the show scoring three artists for her team. See which artists are on each team at the official website of The Voice here.
The Blind Auditions continue tonight on The Voice Season 17 at 7 PM central time (8 PM eastern time) on NBC. Watch a sneak peek of a 4-chair-turn below.
