Mom’s, Dad’s, Grandma’s, Grandpa’s and anyone else who might have an old car seat taking up room in their garage…this news is for you!

You can trade in your child’s old car seat for a Walmart gift card, and it really works!

Our friend Katie at Radio Bloomington took in 2 old car seats and got $60 in Walmart gift cards. The stores are handing out $30 gift cards in exchange for old car seats ($30 per seat, only 2 allowed per household) and then recycling them through a place called TerraCycle, a waste management company that specializes in “difficult to recycle” items. Terracyle claims that the number of car seats thrown out every year is the “plastic equivalent of approximately 35 million water bottles” in our landfills. That’s a lot of plastic being recycled, AND you get $30 in Walmart gift cards in exchange for something you aren’t using anymore, and probably wouldn’t get $10 for in a garage sale.

The Walmart exchange program, which coincides with National Baby Safety Month, runs through September 30th. Here are some more rules and regulations.
