Hurricane Dorian expected to become a Category 3 storm before hitting Florida

Tropical storm Dorian is now officially a hurricane and could become a category 3 by the time it reaches the US mainland.

Dorian strengthened to a hurricane Wednesday afternoon (8/28) near the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 82 mph and gusts of 111 mph were recorded near the island of St. Thomas.
