How many bands can claim this honor? As the InSight robotic lander crawled across the surface of Mars last year, it came across a boulder, which NASA has now named for the Rolling Stones.
Taking the stage before the Brit rockers’ show in Pasadena on Thursday night, actor Robert Downey Jr. informed them about the finding, dubbed the “Rolling Stones Rock.”
Slightly bigger than the size of a golf-ball, officials at the space agency saw the rock had rolled about three feet propelled by InSight’s retrorockets as the spacecraft touched down. Hence, the title in honor of the iconic rock band.
“NASA has given us something we have always dreamed of, our very own rock on Mars. I can’t believe it,” front man Mick Jagger said, joking, “I want to bring it back and put it on our mantelpiece.”
What country music act deserves to have something in outer space named after them and why?
