NASCAR racing Saturday night (5/11) at Kansas Speedway was intense as Brad Keselowski was able to grab the win in overtime in the Digital Ally 400.
From the drop of the green flag to start the race the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series saw some of the most competitive racing so far this season. The cars were racing side-by-side through the entire race. In fact, there were times they went three, four and even five wide around Kansas Speedway.
The lead of the race was exchanged 23 times between 12 drivers. Kevin Harvick showed that he was the car to beat early on. He started from the pole position, won stage one of the race and led a race high 104 laps in the race. Chase Elliott looked as though he was the car to challenge Harvick when he won stage two of the race.
The track continued to change in the nighttime bringing more cars to the front of the field. The seventh (and final) caution flag waived on lap 264. Since there were only 267 laps scheduled for the race this meant NASCAR overtime of a green=white-checkered finish would come into play.
Brad Keselowski had raced to the lead just prior to the caution flag. He was able to maintain that lead through the caution and the overtime period to claim his third win of the 2019 cup series season. The win was also his second victory in the series at the track.
Alex Bowman claimed a second place finish for the third week in a row. Erik Jones finished in third place with Chase Elliott in fourth place. Clint Bowyer rounded out the top five in his home state of Kansas. See the complete results for the Digital Ally 400 here.
Joey Logano moved up a spot to become the leader in the point standings. Kyle Busch slips back to second place. Kevin Harvick holds steady in third place. Chase Elliott and Brad Keselowski move into the top five at fourth place and fifth place respectively. See the complete Monster Energy NASCAR point standings here.
The NASCAR drivers and teams prepare this week to race for money and braggin’ rights instead of points this week. The Monster Energy Open is set for Saturday night, May 18th at Charlotte Motor Speedway with the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race following Sunday, May 19th.
