A more restrictive law for cell phone usage when driving could be coming to Illinois.
The Illinois State Senate just passed a bill that would make it use any cell device while driving. That includes using the GPS feature unless the device is mounted.
This new law comes in response to police being told by drivers that they were using a GPS app on their phone after being stopped.
The new law would require the cell phone to be mounted to the dashboard to be used. It would also require that any information be entered before hitting to the road. To change any destination information the driver would have to pull over to do so.
If the bill becomes a law the first offense would carry a $75 fine.
Do you use the GPS feature on your cell phone while driving? Do you have a mount for the device in your vehicle?
