Denny Hamlin rallied back from two mistakes to claim the win in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Even though the NASCAR race was on a track with plenty of room to race multiple cars side-by-side there were very few on track incidents. However, there were quite a few mistakes made by drivers and teams on pit road. Denny fell victim to those mistakes not once, but twice. He had one of the mistakes and his pit crew made one.
He was able to rally back from those mistakes to get back to the front of the field as the race came down to the final laps. He got out front and held on to the lead to claim his second win of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season.
Clint Bowyer claimed a second place finish in Texas with Daniel Suarez scoring the third place finish. Erik Jones finished in fourth place with pole sitter Jimmie Johnson rounding out the top five. See the complete race results for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 here.
Kyle Busch remains the leader in the point standings for another week. Race winner Denny holds on to second place in the points. Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano hold steady in third and fourth places respectively. Aric Almirola moves up to take over fifth place in the standings. The drivers and teams go back to short trackin’ this weekend in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway Sunday, April 7th.
