To honor the very generous donation Blake Shelton gave to the program, the Oklahoma University (OU) Children’s Hospital has named its cancer research program after the country singer.

KOCO TV reported that Blake made a $600,000 donation to the OU Children’s Hospital‘s cancer research program a couple of years ago. The donation was made in honor of the country music star’s cousin, Aspen Van Horn.

Aspen successfully battled a neuroblastoma tumor through two blood transfusions, three rounds of chemo and a surgical procedure at the age of five-months-old at the hospital. She will celebrate her third birthday this coming January.

To honor the Blake for his amazingly generous donation is naming the program that helped save the cousin of the Oklahoma native star of country music and The Voice.

KOCO quotes Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Board President Chip Keating as saying, “We are so thankful for Blake’s support in defeating childhood cancer. We have what I would consider to be one of the top cancer centers in America here at our footsteps, providing the best care possible for our kids with cancer. This research program will help us further our mission to see more kids ring the bell, symbolizing the end of active treatment and the beginning of a life free of cancer.”

You can bet that Blake made the donation out of a heartfelt gratitude for the lifesaving treatment his cousin received, not for any recognition. You can also be sure that he is sincerely honored for what OU Children’s Hospital is doing in return to show their own gratitude.

Well done Blake … well done. Congratulations on a well-deserved honor.
