Carrie Underwood just released her latest album Cry Pretty which she has said is a very personal album. She gets emotional talking about one song that makes her think of her hometown.
Since releasing the new album last Friday (9/14) Carrie has been making the rounds promoting it. We have been finding out through those appearances what made this album so personal and from the heart for Carrie.
We have heard share about trying to have a second child in 2017 and having to go through miscarriages in the process. She fell at home that required her to have more than 40 stitches in her face and the physical and emotional trauma that came with the incident. The year was full of personal battles that Carrie put into the album.
One of the tracks on the project is titled “Kingdom” and the country music singer-songwriter says it makes her think of Checotah, Oklahoma, where she grew up.
“I’m from a very small town in Oklahoma,” Carrie shares, “When I sing this song, this is what I think of. We didn’t have an abundance of fancy stuff. We didn’t live in some giant house or some … I mean, there was really nothing to do … but we kind of had each other and we were really proud of what we had. My parents worked really hard for everything that they were able to give us, and I respect that so much.”
Carrie was overcome with emotions as she continued on.
“We did not have a lot of extras in our lives, and that was I think a good thing. But to me when I think … I’m gonna cry … [starts crying] when I think about home it’s the best thing. I’m so glad that I grew up where I grew up with my amazing family and the house that we grew up in that my parents still live at, [sniffles] in that tiny town with not a lot to do … and not a lot of extras, that is part of me.”
Carrie’s new album Cry Pretty is available everywhere now.
Carrie will be on the Ellen DeGeneres Show this afternoon (9/19) where she will talk more about the new album, her forthcoming second child and more. Watch some advanced clips of that interview in the videos below.
