Monday night (8/7) Keith Urban planned on celebrating one #1 song, but got to celebrate two hitting the top of the charts.
Keith Urban and his co-writer of the song “The Fighter” Busbee were joined by industry professionals, family, friends including Carrie Underwood to celebrate the song being a number one. The party took place in Nashville.
Before the party got under way, Keith recalled hearing Carrie’s part of the song after she recorded it on the road in St. Louis.
“The first time I heard her singing was through FaceTime. You know, they were listening to playback and when I heard her voice singing that chorus, I was just elated at how it worked out. She was perfect for the song,” he shared.
Carrie joined Keith in a performance of the song at the party.
While the party was planned as a celebration of the chart topping single “The Fighter,” Keith also got to use it to celebrate his current single “Coming Home” hitting #1 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles chart this week.
The song features Julia Michaels on vocals and was inspired by a guitar lick from Merle Haggard‘s #1 song “Mama Tried.” The song features an adaption of that guitar lick and as a result Keith gave the country music legend a co-writing credit for the song.
At Monday’s number one party Keith talked about getting to contact the family of the late country music icon with the news.
“It’s a huge thing. I mean, that’s a whole thing with his family. And, they were the first people I texted when I found out the song had gone No. 1. Theresa and Ben [Haggard] were the first two people I reached out to say ‘thank you’ for that. [It] meant the world to me,” Keith said.
Congratulations on one becoming two for the celebration to Keith Urban!
