Could Keith Urban‘s latest single “Coming Home” give Merle Haggard another #1 hit song? It’s possible.
Keith’s song is inching ever closer to the top of the country singles charts. “Coming Home” hit #5 this week on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles chart and #6 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Both charts rank the songs based on country radio airplay across the nation.
Keith wrote “Coming Home” from the inspiration of a guitar lick he liked in Merle’s 1968 number one hit, “Mama Tried.” Keith even included Merle in the credits for writing the song along with co-writers J.R. Rotem and Nicolle Galyon.
When asked about the song that features Julia Michaels on vocals becoming another #1 song for Merle the Australian singer-songwriter responded, “The idea that Hag may get another number one song since the ’80s is just about time [laughs] I’d say.”
If “Coming Home” does reach the pinnacle of the country singles charts, it would be Merle’s first #1 since 1987’s “Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star.”
Listen for “Coming Home” by Keith Urban featuring Julia Michaels on B104. Let’s all cross our fingers that it becomes another #1 hit for country music icon Merle Haggard and adds to the legend that is The Hag!
