Brett Young is working on his sophomore album and he says it includes both happy songs and heartbreak songs.
Brett’s debut, self-titled studio album was released in February of 2016. The album has produced the debut #1 single on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles chart “Sleep Without You.” The next two singles, “In Case You Didn’t Know” and “Like I Loved You,” also hit #1 one on the Billboard Country Airplay singles chart. In fact, “Like I Loved You” held the top spot on the Billboard chart for three consecutive weeks. The fourth single from the project “Mercy” has climbed to #4 on the Billboard chart this week and has the potential of being another chart topper for the country music singer-songwriter.
That first album features a lot of heartbreak and relationship struggles as the subject of the lyrics. Since making that project Brett’s life has moved to a happier place. He has been enjoying success in both his professional and personal life. In late February of this year Brett announced his engagement to Taylor Mills.
As a result of the current place he is in life, Brett shares those feelings are showing through in his new album.
“It is definitely a happier feeling album,” he confesses.
However, he made sure to not make the album too happy.
“I did though, want to make sure that we didn’t just put out 12 love songs,” Brett explains. “You alienate kind of half your audience at that point.”
Brett made sure to balance the happy and heartbreak for this sophomore project.
“There’s more up-tempo songs and just the overall feel is happier,” he states, “But, I still put a good amount of breakup songs in there for the people that are connecting to those right now.”
While we don’t have a title for the new album or a release date, it will be interesting to hear the mix when the project is done.
With what appears to be the final single from his debut album setting up to peak on the charts, we could hear something from Brett Young’s sophomore album within the next month or two.
Personally I can’t wait and hope it will be one of the happy songs with some tempo that we get first from Brett Young’s second studio album.
