Darius Rucker got some of his friends together again this year to put on a concert to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The concert called “Darius Rucker and Friends” was held at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last night (6/4) with Darius being joined by Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, Lauren Alaina, Ashley McBryde and more.
The Tennessean reports that Darius has been putting on this benefit concert as the “unofficial prelude to the CMA Music Festival” since 2010. More than one million dollars has been raised for St. Jude via the annual concert.
Darius shares that it has never been a problem getting other country stars to join him for the benefit concert, especially since they are already in town for CMA Fest.
“I meet a lot of good friends here, you know,” Darius shares, “You can come here and start hanging out with Trace and you know we became friends and start doing show together and you just call those guys and say, ‘Can you come?’ and if they’re in town they say ‘Yeah.’ And it makes for a great show every time we do this.”
The stars that join Darius for the concert each year know what a great cause St. Jude Children’s research Hospital is and the important work they do. Especially when those stars have children themselves like Trace Adkins.
“When you have your own kids and grand-kids,” Trace confesses, “It takes on a whole new meaning, it gets a little heavier, the work that St. Jude does. I thank God they’re there and doing the research that they’re doing to try to conquer childhood cancer.”
Thank you to Darius Rucker and all of the stars that join him each year for this special concert to benefit St. Jude!
