Kyle had won races in NASCAR’s lower divisions held at Charlotte Motor Speedway and had even won the All-Star Race at the track. However, it was the last track on the list that he had not won a NASCAR Cup Series points paying event.
After the hoopla and ceremonies honor the Nation’s military for Memorial Day Weekend, Kyle started the race from the pole position with Joey Logano alongside in the front row. Joey was able to take the lead and hold it for the first four laps, but it was all Kyle Busch after that.
During the race that endured 11 caution flags with only four drivers exchanging the lead nine times Kyle led a race high 377 laps of the 400 lap race. He was the first car at the end of the first three stages of the race and more importantly, the leader at the end of the fourth and final stage of the race to claim his fourth win of the 2018 season. The win also made NASCAR history as Kyle becomes the only driver in the cup series to win at every active track on the circuit.
Martin Truex Jr. came across the finish line in second place with Denny Hamlin in third place. Brad Keselowski finished fourth with Jimmie Johnson rounding out the top five. See the complete race results for the Coca-Cola 600 here.
Kyle Busch remains the leader in the point standings with Logano (2nd), Kevin Harvick (3rd) and Keselowski (4th) all remaining the same as well. Truex Jr. moves up to take over fifth place in the standings. See the complete Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point standings here.
