There are two albums out today (4/6) paying tribute to the music of Sir Elton John. One of those albums is made by all country artists including Maren Morris.
The first album is titled Revamp and features artists including Mary J. Blige, Alessia Cara, Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, P!nk & Logic, Florence + The Machine, The Killers, Lady Gaga, Mumford & Sons, Queens Of The Stone Age, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith doing their own versions of some of Elton’s most iconic songs.
The other album is titled Restoration: Reimagining the Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin – Nashville Edition. This album features Little Big Town, Maern Morris, Don Henley and Vince Gill, Brothers Osborne, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Lee Ann Womack, Kacey Musgraves, Rhonda Vincint and Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, Dierks Bentley, Rosanne Cash and Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson singing Elton’s songs with their own style added to them.
Maren was honored to a part of the project and she got the chance to meet the musical legend after the Grammy Awards earlier this year.
“He was like, ‘I live in Atlanta sometimes, and I think in a past life I was southern’,” she shares with a laugh.
Maren then explained that is likely how she feels that Elton is country, “Just hearing him say that, it makes so much sense because you listen to Elton songs from the ’70s, where [it] sounds like a country song.”
There is no doubt that Elton’s songs are entertaining and have a story to them. In that sense I can agree with Maren that there is a country connection in Elton John songs.
Both tribute albums to the music of Elton John are available digitally and in music stores everywhere now.
