Night two of week two for Blind Auditions on The Voice Season 14 happened last night (3/6). Was Blake Shelton able to secure any artists for Team Blake?
Blake started out the night with five artists on his team. Both Adam Levine and Alicia Keys each had six artists on their respective teams while new coach Kelly Clarkson was leading the way with eight members of Team Kelly to start the night.
Spensha Baker decided to sing The Beatles’ “Blackbird” for her Blind Audition. It’s a great song. However, I didn’t feel this song was the best choice for this purpose. That didn’t seem to matter to Blake and Kelly as they both pressed their buttons for Spensha. Both coaches gave compelling reasons for Spensha to consider in making her choice.
Ultimately Spensha made the decision to join Team Blake.
When Wilkes took the stage he put his vocals to work on the song “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers. The rock singer did well enough to get Blake and Adam to press their buttons. Adam went after Wilkes pretty strong to join his team. Wilkes revealed that he has been living in Nashville for a while and writing country songs which made me think Blake could have the edge in this one.
Wilkes did choose to join Team Blake and I really believe that it could be because of the Nashville connection, even though Wilkes is not looking to be a country artist. Since he’s been writing in Nashville, like I have said for other artists on the show, Wilkes has likely crossed paths with people that know Blake and talk highly of him.
JessLee was a part of one of the montage videos that I have gone on record saying that I am not a fan of. She sang Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You,” and got Blake and Kelly to both press their buttons before choosing to join Team Blake.
Jaron Strom loves Motown music and therefore chose to sing “This Magic Moment” by The Drifters and Ben E. King for his Blind Audition. He did a fine job on the song, but I didn’t think this particular song is really a good choice for use in auditioning. Blake heard something in his performance that he liked and turned his chair around, the only coach to do so, bringing Jaron to Team Blake.
Blake did the best during the one-hour episode adding four artists to his team and bringing Team Blake up to a total of nine artists.
Alicia Keys was right behind Blake for the night adding three artists to her team while Kelly was able to acquire just one artist last night. Both Alicia and Kelly also have a total of nine artists on their respective teams.
Adam had a rough night getting shut out during the episode and not adding a single person to his team. That leaves Team Adam at the same total it started the night with, six artists.
Kelly is the only coach that has not used her “Block” yet, the new twist added for this season. The Blind Auditions continue Monday night, March 12th on season 14 of The Voice. I would be willing to bet that we will see Kelly use that “Block” during the next episode to air on NBC.
