Maren Morris has scored her third career #1, but it is not on a country music chart.
Maren’s first chart topper was her collaboration with Thomas Rhett “Craving You” on the Billboard Country Airplay and Mediabase/Country Aircheck singles charts.
Her second trip to the top of the country charts was with her solo song “I Could Use A Love Song.”
Now Maren sits at the top of the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart with the song “The Middle,” a collaboration with EDM artists Zedd and Grey.
The song has risen to the top of that chart in just four weeks, the fastest rising song on that chart since The Chainsmokers reached number one with “Closer” featuring Halsey in September of 2016.
Maren says of the collaboration, “I don’t think it was too much of a stretch to be a part of this song as a feature and I love Zedd, and I don’t ever try to be like, ‘Let’s write a pop song today.’ I just kinda let the chips fall and sometimes it feels more pop and sometimes it’s like straight up traditional country songs, sometimes it’s R&B.”
This accomplishment makes Maren the first core country act to top the chart since its inception back in 2003.
Maren appears to be making every effort to live up to being the reigning ACM New Female Artist of the Year. She is up for four more ACM Awards at this year’s 53rd Annual ACM Awards Show including Female Vocalist of the Year. I would say she has a pretty good chance of taking home some of those trophies when the show airs Sunday, April 15th live from Las Vegas on CBS.
