A Michigan man was quite surprised when he opened a letter addressed to his German shepherd that stated the dog would receive $360 a week for unemployment!

Michael Haddock is an attorney who says he knew that “Ryder” his dog was smart. However, he was confounded on how the pet managed to file an unemployment claim.

When Michael read the notice from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency that approved “Michael Ryder” for receipt of the weekly unemployment checks, he had to assume the canine filed the claim since the pooch is the only resident at his address with the name Ryder.

Chris DeWitt, spokesperson for the Talent Investment Agency, a division of UIA says that the notice could be an example of fraud, where someone thought they were taking a legitimate name from a household and using it to file a false claim for unemployment.

Michael is a little bummed about the deception. He was very interested in seeing how his dog would have spent the income.
