Veterans Day is November 11th and we all should take a moment to honor the men and women of the United States Military.
These men and women choose to wear the uniform of our Country and make huge sacrifices for the rest of us, people they have never met and probably never will. They defend our freedom and way of life from any threat anywhere on the planet.
They all make this choice knowing that they might have to make the ultimate sacrifice, and many of them have and will in the future. For this there is no way to repay their sacrifice, but the gratitude from our country can never be measured.
Country music singer-songwriter Brantley Gilbert explains why he is such an avid supporter of the men and women who serve in our military, “I didn’t go in the military. The least I could do is spend as much time tryin’ to … you know, make sure that I’m doing everything I can to give ’em the kind of support they deserve. God blessed me with a much bigger platform than I need … a lot more spotlight than I’ll ever need. And, you know, I’m very, very passionate about sharing every inch of it I can with our veterans and our active duty guys and girls and their families. It’s one of the many prides in my life.”
Each year the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) National Veterans Outreach Office, in conjunction with the Veterans Day National Committee ask artists to submit designs for a Veterans Day poster for that year. This year’s poster is at the bottom of this page and features the memorial and a quote from Illinois native and the 16th President of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln. You can view posters from previous years here.
Whatever you are doing on Saturday, November 11th please make sure to take some time to honor the men and women who serve our country in the military. If you know a veteran, make sure to tell them thank you. Take a moment at some point in some way to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending our freedom and way of life.
To all the men and women of the military past, present and future …on behalf of myself and everybody here at B104 and Radio Bloomington, on Veterans Day, and EVERY day, Thank You!
