Garth Brooks was honored as Entertainer of the Year last night at the 51st Annual CMA Awards, despite Twitter lighting up that he was lip-syncing during his performance earlier in the night.
So, the question is, WAS Garth Brooks lip syncing during his performance of “Ask Me How I Know” on stage at the CMA’s last night?
Backstage, Garth admitted that the rumors that lit up Twitter during his performance were true, he had in fact lip-synced shortly before his win.
“We’re in the middle of 12 shows in 10 days. Not 10 shows in 12 days, 12 shows in 10 days,” he explained. “We did a game-time call on whether to sing the track or lip-sync, and decided to lip-sync. The voice just isn’t there anymore, and you want to represent country music as best you can.”
Garth isn’t the first to lip-sync, and he definitely won’t be the last. He’s been on one of the longest tours ever, with sometimes 2 shows a day. It’s understandable his voice is tired, but many fans showed their disappointment on social media.
“Garth Brooks is obviously the best country singer there is… sounds the same live as he does recorded.”
“My heart is broken. How could you lip sync.”
“Garth Brooks is lip syncing. Not what Entertainers of the year do.”
Regardless, Garth was named Entertainer Of the Year last night, for the second consecutive year and for the sixth time overall. Without skipping a beat, he thanked the fans, without them none of this would be possible, and his wife Trisha saying, “Ms. Yearwood, I am yours forever.”
