Tom McIntosh was one of the more than 500 people injured during the mass shooting in Las Vegas and he got to reunite with the man he says saved his life.
Tom and his wife were attending the Route 91 Music Festival when the unthinkable act of violence happened Sunday evening (10/1). The two were running for cover when Tom himself acted heroically helping his wife and another woman over a wall to safety when he was shot in the foot by one of the thousands of rounds fired by the man in the hotel room window.
By the time Tom made it over the wall himself he says his “pants were already soaked and my shoe was full of blood.” Tom really believed he would bleed out and not survive his wound. One person attempted to help, but apparently did not know how to properly apply a tourniquet.
Enter James Lawson, an army reservist with EMT training. He adjusted the makeshift tourniquet properly to stop the bleeding from Tom’s leg. The two men waited for 10-15 minutes when a passerby stopped in his truck and offered to take them to the hospital. That man in the truck is also a hero for stopping and helping.
Once they arrived at the hospital Tom and James parted ways. They had not seen each other again until the Today Show was able to bring the two together. Watch the emotional reunion in the video above.
We have heard many stories like this one. People becoming heroes by helping complete strangers in the face of danger and amid complete chaos. The police, firemen, medical personal on site and at the hospitals and all of the ordinary people that helped each other in such a tragic situation are all heroes. These people did not let terror or hate stop love from enduring.
Our hearts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives and their families in this devastating time. Our prayers continue for those wounded and still recovering from the tragedy.
Our gratitude goes out to every person that did everything they could to help others and reaffirm that love will always overcome hate. #StopTheHate #PrayForLasVegas
