Jason Aldean took time to perform a tribute to his country music friend Troy Gentry in concert with a performance of one of Montgomery Gentry‘s hit songs.
Last Friday (9/8) was a really tough day for country music. We heard of the passing of legendary country music icon Don Williams and then the news came that Troy Gentry, half of the duo Montgomery Gentry had been killed in a helicopter crash.
It was obvious that every country music star, industry professional and every country music fan was not only taken back by the double loss, but also completely shocked by the tragic accident that took Troy way too early.
Saturday night (9/9) Jason was performing a concert at The PNC Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey when he not only took the time to acknowledge the rough day country music had the day before, but also pay tribute to his friend T-Roy as he was called.
Jason tells the audience, “I don’t know if you guys heard about this, I’m sure you have by now, but one of the legends of country music Don Williams passed away yesterday.”
He then shared his feelings about the loss of T-Roy, “And also a really good friend of mine and the guys up hear in the band Troy Gentry from the band Montgomery Gentry.” Jason had to pause for the applause from the audience for Troy and then he continues, “Those guys were always really cool to me coming up when I was a new artist, they kinda took me under their wing and were really cool to me and I hated to hear that.”
“I wanted to kinda give a shout out to Troy tonight,” he states then raises his cup in the air and the audience follows suit.
“One thing I know about Troy is he always loved a good time,” Jason shares, “He always had a smile on his face, always was havin’ a good time and liked a good party and I think tonight’s a pretty damn good party so here’s to Troy Gentry.”
Jason then shares that it would be a good idea to pay tribute to Troy by performing one of Montgomery Gentry’s hit songs. He explains, “This is one I used play in the clubs back in the day before I had any hits of my own. And uh, still probably my favorite songs of theirs … this one’s for you T-Roy!”
Jason and his band then perform “Lonely And Gone” by Montgomery Gentry. Watch that performance in the video at the top of the page.
Well done Jason Aldean and we’ll miss you T-Roy…
