Kelsea Ballerini revealed yesterday that her sophomore album will be titled Unapologetically and will drop November 3rd.
There is a difference between her debut studio album The First Time available everywhere and her forthcoming second studio album.
“The last two years of my life have been literally like jam packed, like a lifetime into two years,” Kelsea explains. “When I put out my first record, I was going through a gnarly breakup, and it was this really weird time of like highs and lows.”
Keslea shares that when that relationship ended she was set on a path of self-discovery, “I kinda went through this like just growing up period of my life and self-discovery and fighting off some insecurities and getting some more, and just learning a lot about who I am and who I want to be.”
That path not only helped her figure out who she is and wants to be, it gave her plenty of inspiration for song writing.
“I wrote over 200 hundred songs for this album,” Kelsea confesses. This is one of those times when more is not necessarily a good thing because she had to figure out which fraction of those songs would actually be on the album.
“I started listening to everything and started trying to figure out like, ‘Okay, what is it that you want to say this time?’,” Kelsea shares.
Figuring out what she wanted to say with the overall project was important to Kelsea as she explains, “‘Cause The First Time was an introduction, like I wanted that record to be like reaching out and shaking my hand. I wanted it to cover who I was, where I was from, the age I was, first heartbreak, first crush, parents getting divorced, insecurities…that’s what that first record was.”
Kelsea wanted to make sure this second album told who she has become since the time represented on that first album, “And so, I really wanted a laser focus of what this record was,” she states.
We can start to get a small look at the musical picture she is trying to create with the debut single from the project titled “Legends.” Watch the music video for that song at the top of the page.
We will have to wait until November 3rd when Kelsea Ballerini’s sophomore album Unapologetically for that entire musical picture to come into focus.
