Michael Ray says he didn’t think Thomas Rhett was going to let him record the song “Think A Little Less.”

The song became Michael Ray’s second #1 single in March of this year and can be found on his debut, self-titled album available everywhere now.

Michael recalls when he first heard the song. “Travis Gordon from Universal played it for us,” he explains, “And, it was one of those songs that you heard and it was like, ‘This is a hit.’ I knew from [hearing] the demo.”

However, when Michael saw that it had been written by Thomas Rhett, Barry Dean, Jimmy Robbins and Jon Nite, he saw a potential problem.

“I was like, ‘Man, I would love to cut this song, but obviously TR (Thomas Rhett) [wants to record it.]’,” Michael shared.

Much to Michael’s pleasure that was not the case as he explained, “He [Travis Gordon] was like, ‘No, TR … he’s already done cuttin’.” That gave Michael the chance to grab the song, “I was like, ‘Well, then yes, I want it right now.'”

Earlier this week Michael Ray, Thomas Rhett, Jimmy Robbins and Barry Dean got together in Nashville along with country music industry people to celebrate the success of the song. According to CMT Jon Nite was on a cross-country roadtrip with his family to celebrate his 20th wedding anniversary.

Congratulations to Michael Ray and song co-writers Thomas Rhett, Barry Dean, Jimmy Robbins and Jon Nite on the #1 song “Think A Little Less.”
