The 2017 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois took place last Saturday (2/25) and you can watch the video of my (Buck Stevens) plunge in the video above.
Last Saturday happened to be my birthday. I started the day celebrating by heading to Miller Park Lake here in Bloomington. It was 25 degrees with the wind chill factored in it felt like 15 degrees. The water temperature was around 45 degrees.
Myself along with some 1,000+ other people made the pledge to be “Freezin’ For A Reason.” We all did just that as team by team we took our turns running into that bone chilling water and running out to dry off as quickly as possible.
The whole crazy stunt is part of an annual event that raises money for the athletes of Special Olympics of Illinois. At last count on Saturday the total raised by the entire event was over $141,000 and still rising!
You can still donate to my personal Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois until Friday, March 24th even though I have already done the plunge. If you can, please donate to this great organization by CLICKING HERE.
Thanks to all who donated, plunged and volunteered to again make the Bloomington Polar Plunge for Special Olympics of Illinois not only successful, but again one of the top two plunges in the state!
