Miranda Lambert just released her brand new song “Vice.” While it is rocketing up the charts, she says she is “nervous as hell” about it.

The new song from the reigning ACM and CMA Female Vocalist of the Year is from what will be her first new album in over two years. Miranda’s last album Platinum was released June 3, 2014. The forthcoming new album will be Miranda’s seventh studio album. While it does not have a title or release date yet, we are told it will be out sometime before Christmas this year.

Why is Miranda nervous about the new song and presumably the new album? The singer-songwriter created the songs for the project following her high-profile divorce from Blake Shelton. How did that part of her life influence her music?

“I’ve been hunkered down for a year writing, recording, trying to live a normal life and getting ready for a new album. No one’s heard from me. I’ve been pretty silent all this time,” Miranda revealed to Billboard.com. When it comes to the new song “Vice” she says, “now that I’m coming with a song, it does make me nervous, and I hope that people are respectful of it and understand what I’ve been doing.”

Miranda indicates that this song may reveal her own feelings and dealings with life and says, “I’ve never hidden anything or tried to be too mysterious. I’m pretty straightforward in my music. I always have been, and that hasn’t changed. With my songwriting, it’s taking a journey with what’s been going on in my everyday life — good, bad, ugly and everything in between. I feel like the right thing to do was just come out with something really honest.”

One of Miranda’s signatures is her in-your-face style of music and songs. “The sassy confidence, yes, that’s what I’ve kind of built my career on,” she admits, adding, “But, it also takes a lot of confidence and strength to be willing to be vulnerable.”

Does that mean this new album will be more vulnerable than attitude? “I’m never gonna have an album that’s quote-unquote a ‘heartbreak album,'” Miranda says. “Everybody has bad moments, and then you come out of it and you have a great moment, and then you have some somber times. I want an emotional journey, because that’s what life is, and I want to document that. But I don’t think anybody’s gonna listen to this new project and say, ‘Ohhh, it’s so sad.’ Yeah, there’s sad songs. But I’ve had sad songs on every record I’ve ever made. There’s also some good old classic country, and some rock ‘n’ roll, and my signature in a few songs.”

I am a fan of his music and I really like Blake’s post-divorce album If I’m Honest. Being a fan of her music too, I can’t wait to hear Miranda’s post-divorce album as well. It will be interesting to compare and contrast the two albums that were born from the same life event.
