Over the past year Thomas Rhett has become one of the hottest names in country music. However, he says he hasn’t had time to take in the “crazy success.”
The singer-songwriter from Georgia remembers that his career didn’t start off as hot as the past year has been for him. “It’s crazy. I remember putting out my first single and my second single and they both died at fifteen,” Thomas says. “We started to almost have number fifteen parties for my career, and it kind of felt like the curse of fifteen.”
Then in 2013 Thomas’s third single and title track of his debut album It Goes Like This made it to the top of the country singles charts. He shares, “I’ll never forget my first number one.” That was the start of Thomas Rhett becoming a household name in country music.
Thomas Rhett’s fourth and fifth singles from that album “Get Me Some Of That” and “Make Me Wanna” both also reached #1 on the country airplay singles charts.
Thomas’ sophomore album Tangled Up would be the catalyst for the “crazy success” of 2015 and the first half of 2016. The first three singles from the album “Crash And Burn,” “Die A Happy Man” and “T-Shirt” have all reached the #1 spot on the charts. “Die A Happy Man” has become a career song for Thomas as it stayed in the #1 spot on the charts for six weeks and has earned the singer-songwriter of the song ACM Single Record of the Year Award, Billboard Music Awards Top Country Song Award and the CMT Music Awards Male Video of the Year Award.
“With the success of Tangled Up and having ‘Crash and Burn’ and ‘Die a Happy Man’ and now ‘T-Shirt’ do what they’ve done,” Thomas reveals, “I’m kind of on a roller coaster trying to catch up a little bit.”
The more successful an artist becomes, the more in demand they become and it often means they don’t have time to step back to let what is happening soak in. “It’s been so busy, that I haven’t actually got a chance like sit and reflect on what has actually happened in the last year,” Thomas admits.
However, it doesn’t mean that he isn’t grateful for what has been happening. “My wife and I just feel so blessed for all the success we’ve had,” he humbly states.
It doesn’t look like the craziness of success will cool off any time soon for Thomas Rhett. His follow-up to his six consecutive #1 singles is a song called “Vacation.” In just five weeks the song is already approaching the top 30 on the country radio airplay singles charts.
Thomas is also currently out on the road as part of Jason Aldean‘s “Six Strings Circus Tour” where he will have the chance to win over even more fans at arenas and stadiums across the country. Thomas Rhett posted the picture above on Twitter from one of those concert stops along with the message, “This is my “I can’t believe how many people are here” stance #mindblown”
Thomas Rhett will also serve as co-host with Brett Eldredge on the ABC TV special 2016 CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock when it airs August 3rd. A chance to be in front of millions of potential new fans.
Congratulations on the well-deserved “crazy success” Thomas Rhett. Try to take some time to enjoy it soon. Here’s wishing the next year will perhaps turn into “crazy, insane success” for you.
