The CMT Music Awards has announced a new category for this year’s awards show and the nominees for “CMT Social Superstar.”
When the list of nominees for the 2016 CMT Music Awards were announced we were told that a new category would be revealed June 1st. Today is that date and we now know that new category.
The CMT website states “The award honors acts who use social media to stay connected with fans through several platforms and apps.”
The nominees in the category are Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Eldredge, Lindsay Ell, Jake Owen, Thomas Rhett and Blake Shelton.
Blake lost no time in using social media to exclaim his excitement on being nominated in the category by posting the video and message below on his Twitter account…

Fans can vote for their favorites in the category via Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #CMTAwards with the artist’s tag, #VoteKelsea, #VoteBrett, #VoteLindsay, #VoteJake, #VoteThomas or #VoteBlake.
The voting will remain open through the airing of the awards show.
The new nominations now bring Blake Shelton and Thomas Rhett to a total of three nominations each. That creates a five-way tie for the most nominations this year between them, Carrie Underwood, Cam and Chris Stapleton. See the previously announced categories and nominees here.
The 2016 CMT Music Awards Show will take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena one week from today, Wednesday, June 8th and will air live on CMT at 7 PM central time (8pm eastern/pacific time).
