Country singer-songwriter Cam has joined the American Red Cross in their 2 Steps 2 Minutes Home Fire Awareness Campaign.
The Red Cross reveals that the vast majority of the 66,000 disasters they respond to each year are home fires. They have started the 2 Steps 2 Minutes Home Fire Awareness Campaign with the goal of reducing the number of fire-related deaths and injuries by 25% by the year 2020.
Cam is joining a number of music artists and celebrities to be featured in Red Cross PSAs to further promote the 2 Steps 2 Minutes initiative. Cam scored her first #1 single last year with a song called “Burning House.” The song’s lyrically talks metaphorically about being trapped in a burning house via a relationship.
Why did Cam decide to become part of the Red Cross’ campaign? “I read a news story online about the family in Buffalo, and was very touched to hear about how a father basically rescued his children, and unfortunately lost his life doing so, when they had a house fire,” she shares.
Cam went on to explain, “It was one of the saddest things I’ve ever read. Hearing about the mom of the children, and how they had just gotten engaged on Valentine’s Day, and she didn’t get to marry him yet. It’s always sad that there’s a house fire and that people lose their lives, but I mean this family for some reason…just the dad’s bravery, and what happened that night, meant a lot to me.”
The American Red Cross 2 Steps 2 Minutes Home Fire Awareness Campaign helps people to plan a way to escape their house should a fire start with two steps to ensure your family can get out in two minutes. Learn more at the red Cross website here.
