Blake Shelton will voice a pig in the new Angry Birds Movie and write a song for the soundtrack.
The Angry Birds Instagram account even posted the picture above showing Blake’s character with the message, “Meet Earl, a country music pig in the #AngryBirdsMovie voiced by @blakeshelton – who’s also writing a song for the movie! #country #pigscanrock”
Looking at “Earl,” he even sports a tattoo inspired by Blake’s. While Blake’s arm ink has deer tracks, Earl has chicken tracks.
You may think that Blake, an Oklahoma native who loves to hunt and fish, is as country as they come. His fellow coaches on The Voice (especially Adam Levine) often poke fun at his country nature. But, apparently he wasn’t country enough for the movie producers. “They kept saying, ‘More country!’,” Blake tells Entertainment Weekly, “I felt like I was doing a voice-over for Dukes of Hazzard.”
The moviemakers also asked Blake to write a song for the soundtrack, which was more difficult than expected for the award winning singer-songwriter. “I can write things about myself and my life, but I don’t have a whole lot of experience being shot out of a slingshot at pigs,” Blake shared.
Blake was quite familiar with the Angry Birds phenomenon before he was approached to lend his talents to the forthcoming movie, “I wish I had a dollar for every minute I lost playing that freaking game, you know?” He then added, “Well, I guess I do now.”
The animated movie will feature the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride and Maya Rudolph and will be released May 20th in theaters.
