The TV special movie ‘Coat Of Many Colors‘ will air tonight with Jennifer Nettles playing Dolly Parton‘s mother. Jennifer says it was an honor to be chosen for the role.
The movie tells the true story of Dolly and her family depicted in the iconic song from the singer-songwriter.
Jennifer has been in the spotlight for years as half of the award winning duo Sugarland and as a solo singer. However, she has not done much acting and says that being chosen to portray the mother of the legendary Dolly Parton as a huge honor and knew she had to do the role justice.
“I was really touched to be able to be chosen for that role because everybody knows the relationship, a healthy relationship at least between a mother and child is something that is pretty sacred,” Jennifer shared adding, “so I took it in high honor and high account of trying to do a good job.”
Dolly says the movie gives viewers a look into her life, “It really kind of evolves and details a lot of my whole life in bits and pieces. And, it really shows family.” The music icon says the show is really about more than just her, it is about her whole family, “a show about people who made me who and what I am. It shows that I love music, and I love my folks … It’s really got a lot of great elements.”
She thinks it represents the types of shows that are no longer on TV, “I don’t know if people, besides me, miss having shows like Little House on the Prairie or The Waltons, but it’s kind of like that. It just shows the simple life of back then, back when.”
Along with Jennifer Nettles as Dolly’s mother the show stars Ricky Schroder, Gerald McRaney and introduces Alyvia Alyn Lind as a young Dolly Parton. ‘Coat Of Many Colors’ airs tonight (12/10) starting at 8PM central time on NBC TV.
