A Texas high school kicker made a lucky kick in a point after attempt when his kick hit the referee in the head before going through the goal posts!
At a recent high school football game in Texas Midland Lee kicker Luis Aranda sent an extra point attempt off and it was low. It appears to me that it was low enough it was going to be a failed attempt.
Then the ball hit the referee in the head, bounced a little higher, hit the crossbar and went through the goal post. The two officials under the goal posts signaled a good kick.
I asked a friend of mine who is an official for high school sports if that would indeed be a good kick. His response was that in NCAA play that would be a good kick. In Texas the high school football teams play under the college rules. So, yes THAT kick in Texas was a good kick. Apparently, in all the other states that would have been a “dead ball” when it hit the referee’s head and therefore a missed extra point.
Still, a pretty cool viral video that at the writing of this blog has already racked up more than 1.8 million views!
