Saturday night (5/16) Denny Hamlin scored the win in the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway to claim the $1 million payday and give both Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing their first All-Star victory.

Friday night (5/15) in the Sprint Showdown it was Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer that raced their way into the Saturday night feature. Danica Patrick was the winner of the fan vote to get a spot in the 20 car field of the NASCAR All-Star Race.

Denny Hamlin started the race from the pole position for the start and first 25 lap segment of the race. Over the four 25 lap segments and the fifth and final 10 lap there were seven lead changes among four different drivers. Brad Keselowski led the most laps with 49 of the 110 laps spent out front.

The only time the yellow flag was issued was after each of the first four 25 lap segments. That doesn’t mean that a few people didn’t have some issues. A couple of cars did get into the outside wall and have engine issues. However, none of the incidents during the race required a caution period.

In the final 10 lap sprint for the win Denny Hamlin re-started the race in first place and was able to remain the race leader for the final 10 laps to capture the win in the non-points event.

Kevin Harvick finished second with Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth rounding out the top five. See the complete race results for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race here.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series will remain at Charlotte Motor Speedway for this weekend’s Memorial Day tradition of the longest race of the year. The Sprint Cup drivers will get back to racing for points and wins in the Coca-Cola 600 Sunday evening.
