This morning Faith and I were talking about the lottery winner from North Carolina Marie Holmes who just took the payout of $127 million of the $564 million she won. By the time it’s all said and done she’ll put $88 million in the bank.
The amount she ends up with seems paltry after the taxes come into play, but when you’re a mother of four under the age of seven living in a single wide trailer, you won’t spend much time complaining. Scratch that, I don't think anyone would complain. Think of how much your life can change. I really hope she hires someone to mange her money and invests it. The biggest change she notices is the entourage that follows her around these days.
The lottery people have given her security, in the form of protection and at this time Marie is flanked by a lawyer and financial advisor. Like I said before I hope that she continues to use these advisors, I’m not saying she isn’t smart enough to handle her money, but we’ve all heard the stories of all the people that have lost their large lottery fortune because of not being used to such a huge sum.
