Blake Shelton has been tapped to play host and serve as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live (SNL) Live January 24th. The double duty is an honor few have received on the show.
The four-time and reigning winning coach of "The Voice" will follow in the steps of only 12 previous musicians that have pulled double duty on SNL. Rolling Stone Country reports that the only country music artists that have been both host and musical guest on the show previously are Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift (when Taylor was still a country artist).
Many country fans have expressed their desire for Blake and his country superstar wife Miranda Lambert to co-host SNL. Just so you know, Miranda is scheduled for a concert in Charleston, West Virginia the same night as Blake's live gig on the show. That means it is unlikely that those who want to see the country superstar couple together on the show will get their wish.
Blake may get some more major TV exposure before the start of the eight season of "The Voice" starts in a couple of months. Blake has been rumored to be singing the National Anthem at this year's Super Bowl. We will have to wait and see if that is confirmed or not soon.
Congrats to Blake Shelton on his upcoming hosting duties on Saturday Night Live January 24th!
