Last weekend was the opening weekend for Lady Antebellum’s ‘Own The Night Tour’ 2012. The first weekend of shows started in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday, moved on to Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday and then here in Bloomington, Illinois for Sunday night’s concert. The entire opening weekend of the tour played in front of More than 32,000 fans in the three cities.
Kenny Chesney held the attendance record for US Cellular Coliseum when he sold out his tour stop a few years ago in three minutes. Although the Lady Antebellum concert didn’t sell as quickly, it did sell more tickets. The ‘Own The Night’ Tour does not have floor seating, instead opting for general admission standing room on the floor. This allows for more tickets to be made available. It was all that was needed for Lady Antebellum to set the new high bar for ticket sales at US Cellular Coliseum.
Talking about the opening weekend of the tour, Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley said: “Opening weekend was more than we ever could have dreamed. There’s been so much anticipation and nervous excitement leading up to our first big arena tour. So much work and preparation goes into putting it together, and then you have to let go and just hope the fans show up. They didn’t let us down! We’re honestly blown away.”
The popular trio made it a memorable night in many ways including sharing the spotlight with special guests Darius Rucker and Thompson Square. The opening acts did a great job getting the record setting crowd warmed up. Lady Antebellum then brought them all back during the musical set for an awesome collaborative performance of the Doobie Brother’s classic song ‘Black Water’. Taste of Country reports that this isn’t the first time Lady Antebellum has shared the stage with their opening acts or have covered this song. Last year, the trio brought out opening acts Josh Kelley and Edens Edge to sing the song.
